A conversation with the creator of noblessacalf
Following on from our last interview with Badalassi Carlo and Conceria Walpier , this time we will be talking to German leather maker Noblessacalf and Germanshrink. I had the rare opportunity to meet with the famous long-established tannery "Perlinger"!
This time we met the two representatives, Ulrich and Nikolas.
First, we had the two of them take a look at moku's leather goods. They looked at the small and thin wallet Saku ver.3 and the small and thin long wallet Uno, both made from Noblesse leather.
This is always the most nerve-wracking moment.
"The design is unique, compact and very good!" was the evaluation.
The leather produced by Perlinger is very labor-intensive, and we were told about the manufacturing process and shown a video of the actual manufacturing process.
"It is made so carefully by hand and with so much effort, so it is truly high quality, but it is frustrating that the process is not easily communicated to consumers," he said.
It was a moment when I realized once again that it is our role as manufacturers to be able to communicate this to everyone.
We were also introduced to new products and new colors. Until now, moku has only handled embossed and shrunk leather, but now they have a wide selection of smooth leathers, and I really like the slightly softer smooth calf leather. It's the perfect material for bags and other items.
At Perlinger, they make a variety of leathers, including embossed, shrink, and smooth. However, each type of leather has its own characteristics that need to be selected from the raw hides. They select the hides based on various factors such as their softness, size, and thickness.
As I listened to his story, I was impressed by how carefully and delicately each and every step was carried out.
Since it was a rare opportunity, we made a ridiculous request, "Can you make this color with this material?", and they actually made a special request and considered it! Although a certain amount of production is necessary, they agreed to consider making an original material by combining our favorite colors and materials!
