I have a strong preference for "practical thinness." There are many thin and small wallets on the market, but I think they are too focused on thinness and compactness and sacrifice other elements.
The biggest sacrifices users make are storage capacity and durability. If you're just going to the nearest convenience store or supermarket, a thin and compact wallet might be fine.
Although ICHI is a thin wallet, it has enough storage capacity and durability (peace of mind) so you can go on a trip with just it.
Three features of the thin wallet ICHI ver.2
1. The thinnest in its genre! Just 7mm thin, so it won't take up too much space in your pocket
The secret to its slimness is that the card and coin compartments, which tend to be bulky, do not overlap.
A typical wallet or coin purse has a structure where the card storage section and coin storage section are stacked vertically, but the ICHI slim wallet has an innovative structure that prevents the sections from overlapping.
This revolutionary structure not only makes it possible to create a slim wallet, but also allows for high storage capacity.
It's so thin that it doesn't take up much space in your pocket and doesn't ruin the silhouette of your pants.
2. Although it is thin, it has enough storage capacity to go on a long trip with just ICHI
It's not just thin.
It can hold 5 cards, 15 coins, and 20 bills (this varies depending on the type of coins and cards).
3. Thin yet thick leather? High durability made possible by a single piece of 1.2mm thick leather
The above photo shows the actual ICHI being sewn, and as you can see, ICHI is made by sewing together a single long piece of leather. Furthermore, by using thick leather of about 1.2 mm, it is a durable wallet that has a high-quality feel and is difficult to damage. This also creates a sense of luxury.
Even though it is a thin wallet, it uses thick leather as its material. We put great care into this design.
The story behind the creation of the ICHI slim wallet
The ICHI thin wallet was created by focusing on the essence of a wallet and eliminating unnecessary elements, resulting in a wallet with a minimalist structure and simple design.
When we got to the bottom of what a wallet is, the following elements emerged:
1. A wallet should be accessible from one side
2. If you break bills wisely, you will never have more than 999 yen (15 coins) in coins.
3. If you carefully select the cards you should always have in your wallet, you can get by with five or fewer cards.
In a sense, we would like you to think of the following as a suggestion from us to people of today.
1. A wallet should be accessible from one side
The ICHI slim wallet is designed so that cards, bills, and coins can all be taken in and out from one direction.
This may seem obvious, but some products that feature thin wallets similar in concept to the ICHI Thin Wallet are designed so that bills and coins can be removed from different directions.
Just imagine.
When actually making a payment with cash, you first check whether there is coins in the wallet and then decide whether to take out a bill. Furthermore, even if you do take out a bill, you don't want to have more coins, so you adjust the fractional part with the coins you have on hand, right? In other words, in everyday cash payments, you need to be able to instantly decide how to use coins and quickly take them out and put them back in.
In such a situation, the wallet needs to be designed so that cards, bills and coins can be instantly removed from the same direction without having to change the opening.
The ICHI slim wallet is designed so that cards, bills, and coins can all be inserted and removed from one direction, helping you make split-second decisions at the register, when it's easy to get stressed out over what to do.
When it comes to usability, we think thoroughly from the user's perspective.
2. If you break bills wisely, you will never have more than 999 yen (15 coins) in coins.
This is in theory, but if you are good at using coins, the total amount of coins in your wallet will never exceed 999 yen.
Of course, there are exceptions, such as when the vending machine runs out of 100 yen coins and all your change is returned in 10 yen coins, but apart from that, you should be able to manage your coins as the theory goes. This idea is what makes the slim wallet possible.
The thin wallet ICHI ver.2 is designed to hold approximately 15 coins.
3. If you carefully select the cards you should always have in your wallet, you can get by with five or fewer cards.
The ICHI Slim Wallet can hold up to five standard cards. If you think five cards is not enough, is it really that little?
I'd like to share with you a card that I always carry with me.
・Driver's license, insurance card, commuter pass/credit card, cash card
If you keep the above four cards on hand, you will not have any inconveniences in your daily life. Almost all chain store point cards have been made into apps.
Of course, if you suddenly have to go to the hairdresser or hospital, you can just take it out of the card holder in your dresser at home. It is not necessary to keep it on hand all the time.
Please take this opportunity to organize the cards in your wallet. I'm sure you'll end up carrying fewer cards than you thought.
Contents of the upgrade of the thin wallet ICHI
This product is an upgraded version of the "ICHI Compact Wallet Made from a Single Piece of Leather" and has been improved in the following ways, making it even easier to use.
1. Changed the orientation of the billfold and added a bill holder
The billfold previously opened to the left when viewed from the front, but in version 2 it opens to the right, making it ideal for right-handed people.
Also, the first generation did not have a bill holder, so bills would sometimes move around, but there is no need to worry about that with version 2.
2. Even smaller
On the left is the previous version (first generation), and on the right is the current version (ver.2).
It has become about 10mm more compact in both length and width.
3. Uses a zipper with a pull tab
The original version had a large handle, but some people complained that it got in the way, so we adopted a more compact handle for version 2. Once you get used to it, even men can use it without any problems.
