Proven Track Record of SAKU and the Development of Version 3
The previous model, SAKU ver.2, received an exceptional overall rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars based on more than 200 reviews on our official website.
As of the end of October 2023.

What, then, accounts for the remaining 0.1 that prevented a perfect score?
After carefully reviewing customer feedback on SAKU ver.2, we identified the following areas for improvement:
・A desire for a slightly larger bill holder
・Concern that cards might slip out from the side
・Difficulty securely holding cards when carrying fewer cards (a challenge inherent to high-capacity designs)
By addressing and refining each of these points, SAKU ver.3 has finally reached its most complete form to date.
Improvement 1: Enlarged Bill Holder

In SAKU ver.2, the bill holder was intentionally designed to be slightly smaller, as making it too large can make inserting and removing banknotes less smooth. However, with smaller banknotes—such as Japanese ¥1,000 notes—this design required the notes to be inserted carefully to ensure they were held securely, which became a point of concern.
Based on feedback from many customers, we refined the design for ver.3. The size of the bill holder has been carefully adjusted to achieve an ideal balance between ease of insertion and secure holding, resulting in a more comfortable and reliable user experience.
Improvement 2: Redesigned Card Slot for Better Grip and Right-Handed Use

The card compartment has been further refined to strike an optimal balance between ease of access and secure holding.
Previously, the design assumed card removal from the left side for right-handed users. In this new version, the opening has been repositioned to the right side, allowing cards to be inserted and removed more naturally with the dominant hand.

Some may be concerned that right-side access could interfere with the coin pocket; however, as shown in the video above, cards are first pulled upward and then spread open, eliminating any interference and ensuring smooth operation.

In SAKU ver.2, priority was placed on quick access, which resulted in shorter side walls in the card compartment. Depending on usage, this could occasionally cause concern about cards slipping out.
In the current version, the side walls have been extended to significantly improve card retention, greatly reducing the risk of cards falling out while maintaining excellent usability.
Improvement 3: Optional Solution for Those Who Carry Fewer Cards

SAKU is designed to hold up to eight cards. However, when carrying fewer cards, the cards may not be held firmly in place and can shift inside the wallet. While they will not fall out when the wallet is closed, there may be a concern that cards could slip out when opened.

To address this, we offer an optional accessory designed specifically for users who carry fewer cards.
This card-shaped key case can be used when carrying four cards or fewer and is capable of holding up to two keys, improving overall stability inside the wallet.

Please note the following:
This feature is available as an optional accessory (sold separately).
The number of cards that can be stored may vary depending on the thickness of the keys used.
When ordered together with the wallet, the option is available at a special bundled price. In this case, the option will be provided in the same color as the wallet.
When purchased together, the option will be shipped together with the wallet, in accordance with the wallet’s delivery schedule.
This option is compatible with SAKU ver.1 and ver.2. Customers currently using these versions may purchase the option separately.
If you wish to select a different color for the option while ordering the wallet, please purchase the option as a standalone item.
Please note that the bundle discount will not apply in this case.
Proven Success Through Crowdfunding (Pre-Launch Sales)

This product was launched through a crowdfunding campaign on Makuake over approximately 60 days, from December 1, 2023 to January 30, 2024.
The campaign received support from 1,439 backers, resulting in over ¥27.4 million in total pledged orders.
We were honored to receive many warm and encouraging messages throughout the campaign.
Five Key Features of SAKU ver.3
Functionality ①: Compact and Slim

The wallet measures 93 mm × 93 mm (3.66 in × 3.66 in).
Even when fully loaded with 8 cards, 10 banknotes, and 15 coins, the thickness remains just 15 mm (0.59 in).
At maximum capacity, the thickness stays under 20 mm (0.79 in)—approximately the same thickness as a typical smartphone—making it easy to carry in pockets or small bags.
Please note that the thickness may vary slightly depending on the thickness of the cards and the type of coins stored.
Functionality ②: High Capacity
SAKU ver.3 offers a generous maximum capacity of 8 cards, 20 coins, and 25 banknotes, making it suitable for use as a primary wallet even when traveling.
Most compact wallets typically hold around 5–6 cards and about 15 coins (based on our internal research). In contrast, SAKU delivers superior storage capacity without sacrificing its compact size.
While the difference may appear minimal at first glance, anyone accustomed to using mini or compact wallets will appreciate how much more convenient it is to carry just two or three additional cards or coins when needed.
Based on our internal research.
Functionality ③: Easy Access to Coins

By gently pressing both sides of the coin pocket, the opening pops open smoothly, allowing easy access to your coins.
Many compact wallets achieve their small size by sacrificing usability. As a result, their coin compartments tend to have small openings, forcing users to tolerate the inconvenience of difficult access.
With SAKU, there is no need to compromise.
The coin pocket is positioned at the top of the wallet and features a unique structure that opens widely when the sides are lightly pinched. This design is protected by a registered design patent, enabling quick and effortless access to coins without obstruction.
Design Registration No. 1731798(Japan)
There is one principle we firmly believe in:
a shallow coin pocket is far easier to use than a deep one.
Many wallets feature deep, card-sized coin pockets. While they may hold more coins, coins tend to sink to the bottom, requiring you to reach deep inside with your fingers—making them difficult to retrieve.
Like all moku wallets, SAKU is intentionally designed with a shallow coin pocket, sized so that a ¥500 coin (approximately 26.5 mm / 1.04 inches) fits snugly. This ensures coins remain visible and easy to pick up.
Functionality ④: Direct Access to Coins
Imagine everyday situations where you use coins:
At the checkout, don’t you first check how many coins to use so you don’t end up with more change?
At a vending machine, wouldn’t it be easier if you could access only your coins?
SAKU is designed to allow direct access to coins without removing or fully opening the wallet.
Even in rushed payment situations, this thoughtful structure helps you stay calm and handle transactions smoothly.
Functionality ⑤: Designed for Left-Handed Users
Image on the right: Left-handed version
Image on the left: Right-handed version
This left-handed version features a mirrored layout of the standard (right-handed) model, thoughtfully designed for removing banknotes and cards with the left hand.
Did you know that most wallets on the market are designed primarily for right-handed users?
We will never forget the reactions of left-handed customers who experienced a wallet truly made for them for the first time.
With its structure optimized for left-hand use, banknotes and cards can be inserted and removed smoothly from the left side, providing a natural and comfortable experience for left-handed users.
Premium, Eco-Conscious Materials
Pueblo Leather

Used for both the exterior and interior.
Pueblo leather is produced by Badalassi Carlo, a renowned Italian tannery, using hides from female cattle aged over two years. The leather is crafted using the traditional Vacchetta (vegetable tanning) method and finished with a deliberately roughened, fibrous surface—resulting in a highly distinctive appearance.
At first, the leather has a texture reminiscent of washi paper, with a matte finish and very little sheen. With continued use, however, the surface fibers gradually settle, and the leather develops a rich luster at an accelerating pace. The color deepens noticeably in a relatively short time.

One of Pueblo leather’s greatest appeals is the speed and drama of this transformation. As it ages, it acquires a smooth, supple texture that feels almost as if it clings to the hand, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty of leather aging over time.
A Material Choice That Supports a More Sustainable World
Much of genuine leather is made from animal hides that would otherwise be discarded as byproducts of the food industry. By utilizing these hides, leather production is often considered more environmentally responsible than disposing of them unused.
In pursuit of texture and durability, many leather production processes rely heavily on chemical agents and additives, which can generate environmentally harmful byproducts during manufacturing.
By contrast, there are leathers processed using plant-derived ingredients. One such method is full vegetable tanning, which uses tannins—naturally occurring polyphenols found in plants.
At MOKU, we primarily work with leathers tanned using this traditional, vegetable-based approach.

Card-Type Trackers Recommended for Loss Prevention
When it comes to loss prevention and tracking, Apple’s AirTag is widely known. However, this wallet does not include a dedicated compartment for an AirTag.
Instead, we recommend using a card-type tracker, which can be stored directly in the wallet’s card slots.
A variety of card-type trackers are available on the market. We encourage you to choose one that best suits your needs and use it together with this wallet.
Reference Information
Some of our staff members personally use the Security SmartTrack Card by Anker Eufy (loss-prevention tracker).
This device is compatible with Apple’s “Find My” network (iOS devices only).
With a thickness equivalent to approximately two credit cards, inserting this tracker into SAKU—designed to hold up to eight cards—reduces the practical card capacity to around six cards.
The product is available through retailers such as Amazon.
Please note: This tracker is not a product of our company. We are unable to provide support, customer service, or warranty coverage for this item.
Actual card capacity may vary depending on the thickness of the cards stored.
Designed for Use Worldwide
Compatible with most banknotes used around the world.
For reference, the Japanese ¥10,000 banknote—often considered relatively large—measures 76 mm × 160 mm (3.0 in × 6.3 in).
As shown below, it fits comfortably in the wallet with ample room to spare.
